Our friends are currently in a "No Buy July". Basically, they just get the essentials for the month and see how much they can live on and how much they can save. We are more or less on a "Low Buy Summer", mostly because of an "Over Buy Spring". We also have decided to use our cars more wisely. Each morning, we decide who is driving further and they take the better gas mileage car (and yes, I made a spread sheet to estimate the fuel savings).
Anyway, it's been kind of fun being a little more creative with meals and using what we have in food storage and in our freezer. Becca thinks that each week, we should have a "Scot, look in the pantry and freezer and figure out what we are going to make" day. It usually turns out pretty good, or at least better than Becca expected. It is a little frustrating when you have a Rudy's BBQ craving or Becca sees a good deal on kid plates and cutlery, but I think that it's good to set a goal and be disciplined about it. This week, for some reason (maybe the stars aligned), we have had a lot of sandwiches. No complaints coming from my corner. Just for the record:
.
Monday: Turkey Avacado Wraps
Tuesday: Grilled Mediteranean Chicken Paninis
Friday (lunch): Sprial Ham
Friday (dinner): Grilled Cheeseburgers
Saturday (lunch): Chicken (leftover meat)
Saturday (dinner): Brisket (leftovers from Sunday)
.
"No Buy" or "Low Buy" doesn't really mean "No Fun". The other night, we made a pasta salad out of things we had at home and headed to a local park by a grocery store that sponsors music. We ate, Riley played in the park, and we listened to some Bluegrass music. Here's to September and satisfying that BBQ craving.

You guys are being way more creative than we are for food. I'll have to start thinking like Scot...
I've thought about trying something like that out but John just eats too much! I could have a lot of beans and rice. :)
